Come April, a new Viper rears its head

The Spring season may seem far away, but April 2012 has a lot in store for Dodge and its loyal customer base. Apart from new greens and pleasant showers, April means the 2012 New York Auto Show and the introduction of the 2013 lineup for Dodge. With the success of models like the Dodge Ram 1500, everyone is eager to see what else Dodge has in store. And with good reason: Dodge recently announced its plans to unveil the 2013 Dodge Viper at this year's show.

Since Dodge didn't produce a model for last year, it's been sometime since we've seen a new Viper. Though details about the 2013 Viper are sparse, this next-generation growler promises to pack all of the impressive power and performance that it has in past years. The consensus throughout the industry seems to be that the 2013 Viper will likely be powered by an 8.7-liter V10 engine. The 2010 Viper included an 8.4-liter V10 engine good for 600 horsepower, and Viper enthusiasts are counting on even better output next year.

 2010 Viper ACR

  • 8.4-liter V10 engine
  • 600 horsepower
  • 0-60 mph in less than 4 seconds
  • 60-0 braking in 100 feet

Early conjecture points to the Viper being heavily influenced by Fiat supercars like the Alfa Romea 8C and Maserati GranTurismo. This means that, in the Viper, Orlando drivers will be driving an American made stallion influenced by some of the brightest automotive innovators the world has to offer.

Based on the exclusive images circulating around the Internet, the 2013 Viper will be dramatically more stylish next year. Exterior design includes pronounced side scoops, modern curves and the sleek, aggressive appeal that nameplates like Ferrari are known for.

April, come she will. Simon & Garfunkel had it right, but I'm not sure the lyric appropriately gauges the speed at which April 2012 is approaching. How could it? This spring will bring with it the burning rubber, growling engine and astronaut-worthy G-force that signal the Dodge Viper. The question is: will you be behind the wheel taming the beast? Or standing wide-eyed as it speeds by?
